Postdoc in surface science studies of oxide catalysts

The Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center at Aarhus University, invites applications for a 1½ year postdoc position in the field of experimental surface science studies of catalysts.

The position is available from 1/8-2019 or as soon as possible hereafter.

Job description
The work will focus on materials characterization using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and photoemission spectroscopic characterization of titanium dioxide (TiO2) surfaces for use in catalysis. The successful candidate will be joining the research project “ProNOx” involving Dept. of Chemistry at Aarhus University and industry (Haldor Topsoe A/S), seeking to optimize TiO2 carrier materials for use in selective catalytic reduction (NOx abatement) applications.

Your profile
Applicants should hold a recent PhD in experimental physics, chemistry, materials science or similar.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated scientist with a recent PhD degree and documented experience in experimental surface science, publishing in international journals and scientific project management. It is a prerequisite that you have experience with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) or non-contact AFM under ultra-high-vacuum conditions or synchrotron-based photoemission spectroscopy (XPS). Knowledge of surface chemistry of metal oxides and experience with practical handling of single-crystal oxide surfaces is an additional advantage.

Who we are
The project is carried out in the experimental surface science group at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center, Aarhus University. The group commands a range of experimental surface science techniques including a large activity on scanning probe microscopy. The group is also active users of synchrotrons, including the local ASTRID2 light sources at Aarhus University and the nearby MAX-IV facility in Lund, Sweden. The group is also associated with the Center for Integrated Materials Research (iMAT), which integrates a diverse range of basic and applied materials research areas across departments.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated.
