The University of Copenhagen seeks to appoint an associate professor of bioinformatics to the DNRF Center for Chromosome Stability at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine to commence as soon as possible.

The appointment is fixed term to five years.

The Center for Chromosome Stability has received long term funding from the Danish National Research Foundation. The mission of the CCS is to better understand the molecular mechanisms by which chromosomal instability impacts on age-related pathologies in humans.

Job description

  • The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including postgraduate teaching and PhD course organisation
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments
Required qualifications
The successful applicant should be able to document:
  • Research qualifications achievable in a position as assistant professor or equivalent within the subject area
  • A deep understanding of biology and experience with diverse fields
  • Bioinformatics expertise, including development of software for high throughput genomics/epigenomics analyses
  • Experience with genome-wide analyses of histone marks and transcription factors - ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, WGBS, DIP-seq, RNA-seq., and modRNA-seq analyses
  • Extensive expertise in bioinformatics of genome and epigenome analysis of oocyte and preimplantation biology, including analysis of low-input and single cell genomics in germline and preimplantation development
  • Must show a proven track record of extensive program design and development, with a focus on data visualization and exploration in genomics and epigenetics
  • Wet-lab insight and experience and integration of experimental and computational biology
  • Previous experience with image analysis is an advantage
  • Research-based teaching, including PhD course organisation in bioinformatics.
  • Publications in high impact journals, such as Nature journals.
The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

The working language of the CCS is English and, consequently, the successful applicant must possess excellent skills in written and spoken English.

The place of employment is at the Center for Chromosome Stability at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
