The Department of Clinical Medicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as postdoc in the field of kidney research in the research group of Professor Jørgen Frøkiær and Associate Professor Rikke Nørregaard as per 1 September 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a 24 months full-time position.

Department of Clinical Medicine
As a postdoc at the Department of Clinical Medicine, you will be part of what is probably the largest health science research department in Denmark. Our clinical research covers all the medical specialities and takes place in close collaboration with the university hospital and the regional hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. We have approx. 30,000 square metres of modern research facilities for experimental surgery and medicine, animal facilities and advanced scanners at our disposal. The department has overall responsibility for the Master's degree programs in medicine and in molecular medicine. At the department, we are approx. 425 academic employees and the same number of PhD students cooperating across disciplines. As a postdoc, you will be working on Aarhus University Hospital or another hospital in the Central Denmark Region. About the research project
In the postdoc position you will be working in a team dedicated to explore the mechanisms of renal inflammation and fibrosis in kidney diseases. The position involves carrying out experimental preclinical studies in rodent models of renal diseases. Your main objective will be to develop and use different in vivo and in vitro models to identify pathways involved in the progression of renal inflammation and fibrosis in kidney diseases. The applicant will spend 3 months in the lab of Dr Mark Knepper at the NIH working on transcriptomics.

Your job responsibilities
As a postdoc your position is primarily research-based but may also involve teaching assignments. You will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with colleagues on your project, where you will receive supervision and guidance.

Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Independent research of high international quality, including publication.
  • Animal surgery
  • Microdissection
  • Statistical analysis

On a day-to-day basis you will report to Associate Professor Rikke Nørregaard.

Your competences
You have a PhD degree, within one of the following areas: molecular biology, health sciences or similar, and a goal of developing into an independent researcher. The successful applicant is expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills, and a strong enthusiasm for learning and developing new experimental approaches. A strong motivation for basic science and experience with animal surgery, microdissection, real time PCR, imaging techniques, immunohistochemistry, western blot protein expression and analysis, RNAseq and statistical analysis are preferred.

As a person, you are ambitious, take ownership and possess good communication and interpersonal skills. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.
