The Department of Bioscience, Aarhus University, Kalø (Jutland), invites applications for a position as researcher in our Section of Biodiversity and Conservation.

The position is available from April 1, 2019, or as soon as possible hereafter.

Job description
We are looking for an early career researcher with a strong track record covering biodiversity and biological conservation with specific emphasis on modelling of biodiversity patterns and development of new methods monitoring and evaluation of management practices. We expect experience in advanced GIS-based spatial analyses, remote sensing methods, notably airborne laser scanning techniques as well as mapping of ecosystem properties.

Additional relevant experience includes field ecology, statistical analyses and data science.
We further emphasize clarity in thinking and writing, and experience with oral and written dissemination of scientific knowledge to peers, decision makers and the general public. Documented capacity for independent project coordination and for team collaboration is considered an important asset. The candidate must have a PhD in biology.

The appointee must participate in research-based advisory work for Danish authorities within the described field.

Academic qualifications:
In order to be able to fulfill the tasks above, you are at least expected to:/It is compulsory that you:

  • hold a PhD in biology
  • have solid background in research in biodiversity and conservation ecology
  • are experienced in advanced data analysis and modelling

It is also important for us that you:
  • Have postdoc experience
  • Publication experience
  • Language skills - e.g. write and speak English fluently

Research and advisory activities at the department are project-driven with a solid tradition in cross-disciplinary research and strong team collaboration. Thus, we are looking for a candidate with proven collaborative skills and the ability to enrich the scientific environment in the Department of Bioscience.

Who we are/ The department
We offer an interesting and challenging position with focus on research and advisory work in a dedicated scientific atmosphere.

Department of Bioscience is organized in 18 different sections working within the areas of freshwater, marine and terrestrial science, wildlife ecology, biodiversity, physiology and ecotoxicology. The position is in the Section of Biodiversity and Conservation, working within the fields of cost-effective management of terrestrial biological diversity, based on the analysis of data from mapping, monitoring, modelling and experiments and dissemination of results to the scientific community, administrative authorities and the general public.

The position is a full time position for three years as a researcher at the Department of Bioscience, Aarhus University Campus Kalø (Grenaavej, DK-8410 Rønde, Denmark).

The Department offers an informal research environment with longstanding traditions for collaboration with national and international university partners and with the Danish Ministry of Environment and Food. The working environment at the Department is based on teamwork and close working relations with developed network activities among young scientists, and social activities.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
