Department of Geoscience and Natural Resource Management, Section of Geography, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is seeks an Assistant Professor of Human Geography with a focus on agricultural geography and landscape ecology in a Global North Context starting 1st of August 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

This position focuses on the analysis of rural development with an emphasis on agriculture, landscape ecology and cultural landscape in a Global North context. The successful candidate has a broad expertise of rural development research – including shifts in economic base, demography, and nature management and it is an advantage if the candidate has specific knowledge of the Danish context. Topics related to nature conservation, environmental protection and the role of land owners as well as the impact of current Danish and international legislation in landscape management and environmental protection are central research topics. A broad methodological experience using both quantitative and qualitative methods is preferred – including spatial aspects and the use of GIS.

The assistant professor’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication, and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within agricultural geography and landscape ecology in a Global north context. The successful candidate will be expected to apply for research funding within this field. To a limited extent the position may also include performance of other duties. The ability to teach courses at Bachelor level in Danish is necessary.

The position is open from 1st August, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter and is a 3-year time-limited position with possibility for extension up to 1 year.

Terms of employment

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

The starting salary is currently up to DKK 426.625 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 72.952). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
