About the Danish National Genome Center
The Danish National Genome Center’s primary task is to lay the foundation for the development of better diagnostics and more targeted treatments using whole genome sequencing. The Center has a national responsibility to develop state of the art infrastructure to enable analysis on big biomedical heterogenous data.

One of the Danish National Genome Center’s main goals is to be at the forefront of new big data solutions in the healthcare domain. The Danish National Genome Center is working with HPC, cloud, network, servers, storage, applications, users and cross-cutting processes in a Linux software environment.

About the position
We are looking for a senior backend developer with experience in developing bioinformatics backend solutions. You will be a part of team dedicated to build a robust backend solution for our high performance cluster.

Professional qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with:
• Strong competence on Python, R, Bash
• Programming languages: Scala
• DevOps tools: Ansible, Docker
• Extensive knowledge of Unix/Linux systems
• Experience with a compiled, low level language (C / C++ / Rust)
• Experience interacting with database systems, PostgreSQL / MySQL, NoSQL
• Experience with designing and developing automation systems for next-generation sequencing diagnostic workflows
• Experience developing reproducible data analysis pipelines using a workflow management system (Snakemake / NextFlow / WDL + Cromwell)
• Experience with next generation sequencing analyses, particularly:
o The file formats (for example BAM/CRAM, VCF, BED, GTF, etc.)
o The tools commonly used in data analysis pipelines (BWA, GATK, etc.)
o The algorithms and data structures used in those tools
• Experience collaborating with various stakeholders in the domain, such as fellow software developers to clinicians and researchers.

It would be a plus if you:
• Have contributed to open source projects. Feel free to show us your pull request, code repositories, or even packages you have released publicly.
• Have experience developing in other programming languages we have not mentioned. We would love to hear your experience using Go, Scala, JavaScript, Haskell, or any other languages.
• Are familiar with cloud systems (OpenShift / AWS) and DevOps tools (Docker, Ansible / Chef / Puppet)

The Danish National Genome Center is an organisation under the Danish Ministry of Health and is located at Ørestads Boulevard 5, 2300 København S, together with Statens Serum Institute and the Danish Health Data Authority. The organisation is expected to have a core of approx. 100 employees.
Salary and appointment terms

Depending on your educational background salary and appointment terms will either be based on
• the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC) (overenskomst for akademikere i staten). Depending on your academic qualifications and experience there is a possibility of being classified as a special or senior consultant according to appendix 4 (protocol concerning special- and senior consultans).

or

• the organizational agreement between The Danish Finance Ministry and the Organisation for Salaried Employees HK/Stat (Organisationsaftale for kontorfunktionærer, laboranter og it-medarbejdere (HK)), according to chapter 5 in the agreement and the collective agreement between The Danish Finance Ministry and the Organisation of Public Employees (OAO-S-Fællesoverenskomsten).

This full-time position is available as soon as possible.
