Do you want to be part of a team that develops the future structural design tools and testing methods for very large wind turbine structures? Do you want to contribute to the scientific development of a new and unique facility for testing large structures such as wind turbine rotor blades? Do you want to be working in a large project on blade design, testing and digitalization: RELIABLADE - Improving Blade Reliability through Application of Digital Twins over Entire Life Cycle?

A postdoc position is available at the section Wind Turbine Structures and Component Design at DTU Wind Energy. We focus on the integration of the simulation models and the testing process to develop uniform digital twin platform to provide reliable results for specific cases for knowledge development and research validation.

In the team, we develop methods of integrated testing and sensing to reduce the time and financial effort of physical full-scale blade testing through increased use of virtual testing and development, and investigation of more complex testing methodologies for improved aeroelastic and vibration driven blade response identification. We develop methods and measuring equipment for testing at full scale and sub-component.

Responsibilities and tasks


The postdoc will have the opportunity to join a cross-disciplinary, international team working on developing design tools and testing methods for wind turbine structures and components. The particular areas of responsibilities include:

  • Testing and experimental data analysis of structures made of composite material such as wind turbine blades will be carried out and applied for: Structural dynamics identification, uncertainty quantification, Finite Element Method model updating and damage detection.
  • It is required that key research results are disseminated in peer reviewed journal papers and presented at scientific conferences. Most of the work will be done in nationally and internationally funded research projects. Some teaching activity may be required as part of the position.

Good communication skills, patience and a positive attitude to working in a team are essential requirements for the successful applicant. The daily working language is English.

Qualifications
  • The candidate must hold a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Civil Engineering, Physics or equivalent,
  • The candidate must have profound experience in experimental work and signal processing combined with excellent analytical skills,
  • Strong skills in experimental and operational modal testing and analysis preferable with structures made of composite material at industrial scales,
  • Work experience with sensing techniques ranging from point-wise to full-field measurements,
  • Python or Matlab programming skills (or similar)
  • Work experience with model correlation and updating is an advantage,
  • Work experience in interdisciplinary research projects is an advantage,
  • Work experience with big data analysis is an advantage,
  • Ability to work independently towards the research goals and deliverables,
  • Ability to pro-actively collaborate and coordinate with other researchers,
  • Fluency in communicating, reading and writing English.

Salary and terms of employment


The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

Workplace and period of employment:
  • The daily workplace is DTU Risø Campus, Roskilde, Denmark
  • Some travelling can be expected
  • The position is 2 for years
