Assistant professor in Educational Development

A full-time position as Assistant Professor is available at Centre for Health Sciences Education (CESU), Faculty of Health, Aarhus University. Expected starting date is 1 July 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The candidate
We are looking for a versatile scholar with experience in designing, implementing and publishing research using a variety of research designs and methods within the area of educational it in higher education and health sciences. Preference will be accorded to scholars with specific skills within applied research, course development, and program evaluation. The ideal candidate has demonstrated ability to initiate his/her own research and to collaborate with colleagues from different backgrounds. Ability to take a leadership role in the advancement of educational IT in collaboration with colleagues, program directors, and faculty members teach theory and methods within the domain of educational it and health sciences education is a definite asset. Applicants must have a PhD in a discipline relevant to health sciences education and be eligible for academic appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.

Job content
The Assistant Professor is expected to develop and lead an internationally recognised scholarly program of research and development within the area of educational it related to undergraduate health sciences education. The incumbent will provide mentorship for colleagues, health professional students and graduate students.

The Assistant Professor will contribute to strengthen and develop the quality of the undergraduate health sciences programs in accordance with the policy and strategies of Faculty of Health and take a leadership role in the advancement of educational it in the undergraduate programs in collaboration with colleagues, program directors, and faculty members. The incumbent is expected to contribute to the Faculty development program offered by CESU.

Your time will be approximately equally distributed between these two core tasks.

Participation in the formal pedagogical training program for assistant professors at Aarhus University is mandatory.

Qualification requirements
The successful candidate will have:

  • Obtained a PhD related to health education
  • An academic record of research in health education, preferably with a focus on educational it
  • Documentation of good teaching skills at higher education level
  • Good cooperative and communicative skills
  • Produced results promising in scope and quality in the field of health sciences education and research, for instance related to aesthetic, cultural, industrial and/or clinical practices.

Experience with or a background in health sciences is an advantage but not a requirement.
Applicants with experience within pedagogical development of pregraduate programmes in health science will be preferred.

The Centre of Health Sciences Education has two units: An Undergraduate Unit in health sciences education and a Post-graduate Unit in medical education. The undergraduate unit of Centre for Health Sciences Education conducts educational research and provides service to the programs of Faculty of Health. This includes offering courses to faculty members, participating in quality assurance activities, assisting in the development and revision of educational programs and being a central partner in relation to educational it at Faculty of Health.
